How does the onboard diving work?
We ask everyone to complete a simple medical questionnaire at boarding, we give several briefings on how the equipment works, where we are diving, what to expect, safety information. Then when we get to the site we will give you all the equipment to suit your size and assist you into the water. The Dive instructors will do ask you to complete 3 simple skills on the beach, then they will guide you through the entire dive- all you have to do is breath and swim. We only dive a few guests per instructor per dive. If you love it as much as we do it you repeat the process.
What if I have never been sailing before?
Some of our guests have never been on boats before, Our professional crew will take care of all the sailing tasks, this allows you to just sit back and relax.. However if your interested you are welcome to give them a hand and learn a few sailing skills.
What are the guests like who will be on the boat?
We cater for guests who have never dived before to certified divers. Most guests are younger and are looking for adventure. Our aim is to provide a social activity based boat with lot's to see and do. We find that people who choose similar types of vessels have similar requirements.
How fast does the boat travel?
On average 9 knots? The Islands are spread out over a relatively large area - the faster you travel the more you see! Both vessels are fast which means you will experience a lot more. Our Catamarans all have twin engines and most are turbo charged as well.
Where does the boat go and what will I see?
We guarantee a visit to Whitehaven Beach, unless inclement weather suggests otherwise and at least 2 or more dive sites. The Whitsundays have 74 Islands most are Heritage Islands. See dive sites and anchorages for more info.
Does the boat have permits to must-see Hill Inlet?
All vessels have a permit license and permission to a visit spectacular Hill Inlet lookout. This is where your host will take all the picture postcard photographs.
Can I expect good food?
Yes, we pride ourselves on having the best menu and a huge quantity of food on offer. Our menus are freshly prepared on board just before every meal time. The menu caters for dietary requirements such as allergy's. Prepare yourself for a smorgasboard of meals: chicken, BBQ steak, ham, quiches, fresh salads, pastas, bakes, desserts.
How many dives can we fit in on a trip?
We average 4 dives per customer on a regular trip and up to 8 on a outer reef tour. The more you do the cheaper it gets it just depends how many awesome things you want to see and experience.
Do you offer night dives?
Yes for certified divers and it does depend on weather conditions at the discretion of the onboard Instructors safety opinion.
What nightly entertainment do you provide?
As the best diving can be before sunrise for certified divers or just on sunrise for introductory divers. If guests would like to rest early there is plenty of outside and saloon space for others to socialise. We have everything from card games, twister, nightly marine slides with explanations about the area and the marine life on the big screen, rope games to movies.
Is the boat a current WCBIA member?
The Whitsunday Charter Boat Industry Association (WCBIA) is the only institution to monitor the quality and safety of vessels in our beautiful area and to provide unbiased recommendations regarding the standard of your chosen boat. A bit of research prior to booking helps to avoid disappointment. Look out for a boat with "The Tick"!
Do I need a medical certificate?
You may require a medical certificate from a medical practioner: If you wish to go scuba diving and have current or previous health conditions. Including: Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Heart conditions, Thyroid conditions. If you wish to go scuba diving and are currently taking any form of medication (not including the contraceptive pill). If you wish to dive and have any existing or previous medical condition, please allow time to get a dive medical from an Australian medical practice before your trip. You can do this here at Airlie Beach for around $60. The medical practices below on most occasions will be able to a dive medical with minimum notice.
