The Crown of Thorns starfish (COTS) are a marine invertebrate that feed on coral and occur naturally on reefs throughout the Great Barrier Reef. When conditions are right COTS multiply in abundance, they can reach plague proportions and devastate the hard coral population on affected reefs. When in plague proportions they are the largest natural predator to coral reef.
