Eco-Friendly Diving

The call to do things to protect the environment can be heard everywhere we go nowadays. Everyone, it seems, is going green. And that's something we at Wings Diving Adventures adhere to as well. Eco friendly diving is our number one aim, we love the ocean and the excitement that its natural beauty offers us, and so we will always strive to protect it.

Many people find the whole eco-consciousness thing intimidating; they are worried it is just the first step before transforming into a hippie or a tree hugger. But it's really not necessary to go quite this far to do your bit for the environment. You can still live just the way you always have and be eco-friendly, because nowadays it's so easy to do just that.

Scuba diving is just about as eco-friendly as you can get from a sport. Even so, there are lots of steps that both we and you can take to keep our oceans clean, protect the coral reefs and all its inhabitants. By learning how to protect this priceless resource we have been given, we can maintain it for future generations, meaning everyone will be able to enjoy the unique pleasures of diving for years and years to come.

Golden Rules for Eco Friendly Diving

To make sure that you don't damage anything during your dive, please follow the five “golden rules” listed below. By doing so, you'll be making sure that your presence underwater is as harmless as can be!

• Keep a low diving profile. Make sure that you have secured all of your diving gear before entering the water. Use an octopus clip and make sure it is secured. This is the best way to make sure that if you do lose anything, it wont drag against the reef and cause any damage
• Never touch the coral. It is very fragile and you could well undo centuries of growth with just one clumsy act
• Don't molest the marine life. You can look, but you can't touch
• If you see any garbage lying around, do the right thing and pick it up. You can throw it in the garbage bin as soon as you get back on board the boat
• Lead by example. By doing so, your fellow divers are going to learn from you the right way to go about things!
